Q: "You say Realm is special because it contains human pheromones, What is a pheromone?"
A: A pheromone is a chemical messenger given off by an individual that affects another individual of the same species. Human pheromones are steroid molecules, made in the skin, that float off into the air and affect those near us. The word "Pheromone," derived from Greek, means "I carry excitement."
Q: "How do we detect pheromones?"
A: Good question. We all have a small sense organ in our nose, different from the sense of smell, that detects pheromones. Truly a sixth sense, that sensory structure, called the "vomeronasal organ" (or "VNO"), detects human pheromones but not pheromones given off by other animals. That's important.
Q: "How come I haven't heard about this interesting new sense organ and human pheromones before?"
A: Because it's a recent discovery! Although you may not have heard of pheromones and the sixth sense yet, you will: They're fast becoming household words. We just published a book. Love Scents (Kodis, Moran, and Houy, Dutton, NY 1998), available at a bookstore near you, that describes pheromones in detail, and is written so anyone can understand it.
Q: "Do we give off pheromones naturally?"
A. Absolutely. We're chemically communicating with each other all the time. That's something many people don't realize.
Q: "If we've got our own pheromones, why do we need the pheromones in Realm?"
A. Because of our cultural habits. What do we do first thing in the morning? Take a shower, What does that do? - - It washes off our pheromones! Consequently, we're phenomenally deprived. (Furthermore, we tend to dress from head to toe, thereby covering 90% of the very skin that releases pheromones into the air.) When we put on Realm, we're actually replacing pheromones we've washed off. By supplementing our lost pheromones with Realm, we're really "getting back to nature," and re-establishing chemical communication with those close to us.
Q: "How is Realm different from other fragrances that supposedly contain pheromones?"
A: There's lots of confusion about this. First, Realm is the only fragrance that contains human pheromones. Realm's manufacturer has several patents on the pheromones - - and on their use in consumer products. The other fragrances that claim to have pheromones use animal pheromones - - such as pig, deer, or cat pheromones ("musk") - - that have no effect on humans.
Q: "What do human pheromones smell like?"
A: Oddly enough, their completely odorless: you can't smell a pheromone!
Q: "What effects do human pheromones have on us?"
A: There are many human pheromones and they have a variety of effects.
